Executive search in India is a research-led hiring process for senior, confidential, scarce or business-critical roles. It begins by defining the business mandate behind the vacancy, not simply by circulating a job description.

What happens first?

The recruiter and employer calibrate the role: outcomes expected, reporting line, decision scope, sector context, location, compensation framework and the backgrounds most likely to succeed.

How are candidates found?

The search firm maps relevant organisations and adjacent talent pools, then approaches both known and passive candidates directly. This matters because many strong senior leaders are not active job applicants.

How are leaders assessed?

Assessment should test evidence: scale handled, decisions owned, teams led, transformation delivered, business outcomes, motivation and practical joining constraints. Seniority by title alone is not enough.

What happens after the shortlist?

The recruiter manages stakeholder calibration, candidate communication, offer context, counteroffer risk and joining follow-through. For confidential mandates, disclosure is controlled throughout the process.

Frequently asked questions

Is executive search only for CEOs?

No. It is commonly used for CXO, business-head, country-head, functional-leadership and other scarce or confidential senior roles.

Does executive search rely only on applicants?

No. A core part of executive search is direct market mapping and outreach to passive leaders who may not be applying to jobs.
